spirit of India blossoms in AU Convocation Hall

Dear Friends The evening of 14th August 2010 will be etched out in my memory forever. I was sitting in the Convocation Hall which was filled to overflowing and there was not an inch on which any body could stand. We all waited anxiously for a meeting with our most distinguished scientist, former President, Bharataratna, Dr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam. Then around 4.30 pm our Vice Chancellor led him inside the hall amidst the cheers of the entire gathering. As the great man sst on our beautiful dias, our Registrar welcomed him and our Vice Chancellor spoke on the University, its strengths and its achievements. He also introduced the distinguished guest to the gathering, bringing out many of his unparalleled achievements. Then Dr. A.P.J.Kalam stood at the podium specially kept for him and spoke his mesmerising speech. We all know his greatness in all spheres, we read his speeches and his books a number of times. But no amount of indirect reading is equal to what we got yesterday in his august presence through his words. I was expecting a slowing down due to age; but no; we heard a perfect presentation in a crystal clear voice. I was taken on by the clarity in thought, speech and purpose. He must have visited a few thousands of colleges and schools. But he had a special day for us, he mentioned the special things about AU and congratulated our authorities. His speech was ready for him and the speech was scrolled on two big TVs and two big screens so that we could all easily follow what he was saying. Such good preparation! There was nothing "on the spot" or on an impulse" about his speech. He was thoroughly prepared to take us into the clouds and he carried out his programme with utmost dexterity. His speech is a jewej and is a lesson for many who waste a lot of time on talking about trivialities. Coming to the matter of the speech itself, just as Sai kuldeep and Padmaja said, The matter excited and energised me no end. I was in a state of euphoria, in a great surreal world, for a long time. My mind was chasing ideas as to how I can make my life more fruitful on the lines suggested by this great visionary. All the matter in his speech is told by Sai kuldeep and Padmaja. I will merely say this; the words that are ringing in my mind are "I will work with integrity and succeed with integrity." " My flag is in my heart". "India will be a great developed country by 2010 and will be a knowledge power." Friends, Human beings, very often , eulogise the departed men , and do not realise the greatness of people when they are alive. Many people realise the greatness of saints only. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam is a great saint, a leader, a scientist anda jewel of a human being. Let us cherish the moments when we were in the hall which just blossomed into a great multicoloured flower under the guidance of this SPIRIT OF INDIA. NAMASTE, to DR.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, for his being so kind and nice and affectionate. Vijaya Ratna
