Hello bloggers,
I am ready with my first blog of this month...
These days with the increasing pollution we are facing lot of health problems. We can identify the problem only when there is a change in our regular system, but most of us may not know that hair is the first biomaterial in our body which gets affected mostly due to polluion...Most of the youngsters these days are not able to digest their hair loss and and this hair loss is medically termed as ALOPECIA.
LET US HAVE A LOOK INTO THIS...
Growth of hair from the follicles can be categorised into three phases
ANAGEN: Growing phase lasts upto 6yrs
CATAGEN:Transitional phase upto 1-2 weeks
TELOGEN:resting phase for 4 months
Types of Alopecia:(1)
1)Scaring Alopecia:Also called cicatricial alopecia. It is due to certain causes like heridity, infection in follicles, cancer conditions,trauma-radiations,burns etc
2)Nonscaring Alopecia:It may be due to stress,starvation,after surgery,deficiency of zinc,Post Pregnancy
It Also may be an auto Immune disorder at times like AlopeciaAreata where bald patches are seen on scalp,eyebrows..
Treatment:
Intralesional injections of triamcelonalone or hydrocortisone is given for lopecia areata.
Diffused hair losss is treated with minoxidil or Finasteride in low doses.
Zinc,Vitamin and iron supplements can also be effective.
Surgically Hair transplantation is done in case of scaring alopecia.
FACTS ABOUT HAIR:(2)
1)Hair is the fastest growing tissue in the body, second only to bone marrow.
2)The area of hair loss practically coincides with the area where any mimic muscles are absent. The area of guaranteed growth of hair is basically situated above muscular tissue. This area is located on temples, above ears.
3)Facial hair grows faster than any other hair on the body. If the man doesnt shave his beard it would grow to over 30 feet during his lifetime, longer than a killer whale.
4)One human hair can support 3.5 ounces.

Alopecia is the major side effect of most of the drugs which is called drug induced alopecia.Anti cancer drugs antihypertensive drugs, systemic or topic beta-adrenoceptor antagonists cause alopecia.Salicylates,NSAIDs cause hair loss in a asmall percentage .All anticoagulant and antithyroid drugs produce hair loss.
