In our daily lives, we find many people with different attitudes and behaviour. Some people enjoy themselves and let others. While some stay away from the social group. Some others lie in the mid of these two groups. At this stage of life, we spend much of our happy moments in chit chatting with friends. Long goes the stories.,,,no intermissions.. the sagas continue..Just talking talking!! While talking in unusual times is considered as a disorder!! That's what is SOMNILOQUY! It is a disorder characterized by talking during sleep. WHEN DOES IT OCCUR??[1] Well, the sources say, the lighter the sleep "the more intelligible is the speech". Traditionally it has been accepted that the speech is associated with DREAMS. Somniloquy isn't a major problem until and unless it is not associated with sleep apnea. HOW MANY TIMES IT OCCURS??[1] The frequency with which Somniloquy occurs varies from single ultimate shout to multiple times. In most of the cases, the person he/she are unaware of the whole scene until the fellow sleepers come into action and intervene. TIPS TO CONTROL.![2] As said earlier this is not a huge disorder or something unless it is accompanied by chronic sleep apnea. Generally discussing, we can treat Somniloquy by simple tips. 1. Allow the person to rest wholly before sleep. 2. The person should be free of tension, anxiety or work pressure (Very common with software professionals now a days) 3. Low intake of meals unlike stuffing loads into tummy ( The tradition continues in India) 4. When the speech frequency is intensified, never allow the frustration to hit the person. This may severely affect the psychological state of the person. hello sirisha!... one more real blog from you!... can you co-relate this with the snoring problem and insomnia. and do you have anything to say about the seasonal somniloquy!....
Sirisha Pingali's picture

hi thank you for the valuable comment!! Well, snoring cannot be related to somniloquy since its a respiratory blockade resulting in characteristic sounds!!! Insomnia is a consequence of somniloquy where people usually in REM sleep experience it!! There are some Seasonal affective disorders which occur in particular seasons say winter, but in real we can't relate somniloquy occurring seasonally but definitely we can attribute the reasons of occasional talking due to heavy stress the whole day, or work load, or excessive thinking on a single work, act, object.
