Hello dear pharma bloggers. Here i present my second blog of
the month.

in this blog we will see how the developments have taken
place to treat diabetics from ages to present.

>> In 100 century the term diabetics was termed by
"aretaeus of cappadocia" from the greak word "dia-bainein"
which means to siphon. (1)

>>diabetics was a major concern in olden days due to scanty
knowledge of it. People used to die with polyurea and constant thirst.

>>charak and sushrutha in order to study the disease they
tasted the urine of the patients and reported the sweetness of it. They also
counted the number of ants that were getting attracted towards it. Thus it was
called as "SWEET URINE DISEASE"(2)

>>In 1675 Thomas willis an english physician discovered the
sugar in the urine and added the term mellitus.

>>in 1794 Joseph van mering discovered the significance of
pancreas in diabetics.(1)

>>with the background of pancreas significance in 1869 Paul
langerhans a german medical student published that pancreas contain two systems
of cells which was later identified as islets of langerhans.

>>In 1908 A german scientist an injectable extract of
pancreas which lowered the gulcosuria.(3)

>>On july 27 1921 canadian scientist "frederic
banting" and "charles" discovered INSULIN.(1)

>>on jan11 1922 First insulin injection was given to an 14
Years old boy leonard thompson. Who died later with leukemia.(1)

>>On may 30 1922 Eli lilly has entered into a deal to produce
insulin on large scale.(3)

>>on oct 4 1923 John james richard and frederick grant
banting were awarded mobile prize for discovery of insulin. Which was the
greatest turnover point in the treatment of diabetics.(1)

>>In 1935 Sir harold percival himsworth distinguished between
type I and type II diabetics.(1)

>>Use of insulin has gained popularity in treatment of
diabetics, many analogues of insulin were later formulated like protamine zinc
insulin, neutral protamine hagedorn in the year 1936(2)

>>The first oral hypoglycemic drug i.e. Sulfonylurea was used
for the treatment of type II diabetics by marcel jonbon in the year 1942(1).

>> In 1977 radio immuno assay was developed by Rosalyn Yalow
and Solmaon berson. Which was later used propularly for the detection of
diabetics(2).

>> In the year 1979 heamoglobin AIC test was developed for
the preceise mesurement of the blood sugar control(2).

The ternd of using orla hypoglycemics and the research in it
gained more importance from the 1900's
