RIPER celebrated the golden jubilee NPW celebrations 2011 in a grand style in collaboration with Anantapur District Chemist & Druggist Association (ADCDA), Association of Community Pharmacists of India (ACPI) & Indian Pharmaceutical Association - Education Division. The programs conducted this year include; 10/12/2011: health exhibition for professionals, public & school children 11/12/2011: health camp for public & continuing pharmacy education (CPE) for pharmacists in Anantapur 12/12/2011: NPW rally & awareness skit at Anantapur town 13/12/2011: Blood donation camp & essay, cartoon, slogan making competition 14/12/2011: Quiz and elocution for pharmacy students & valedictory function Health exhibition was a very successful event with collaboration of different health professionals in Anantapur district. More than 1000 public and school students visited the exhibition held at RIPER. There were presentations from our students and various other institutions such as Orthopedic & Prosthetic Unit of RDT hospital, Bathalapalli, RDT School of Nursing, Institute of Food Technology, OTRI, JNTUA and St. Vincent De Paul School, Anantapur. Health camp at RIPER was useful for more than 300 public of nearby villages. They had their health screening by a team of doctors including Dr. Allabaksh, Dr. Sulthana, Dr. Sajida Salam and Dr. Nagabhusion. Continuing Pharmacy Education (CPE) was the first of its kind in Anantapur district. More than 140 working pharmacists from different parts of Anantapur district attended the CPE program very actively. There is a growing need of improving their knowledge and continuous professional development. Pharmacy Council of India recently made it mandatory to have at least one CPE program per year for the renewal of registration of pharmacists in India. The program was inaugurated by the Sri Ranga Reddy, Secretary, ADCDA. Key note address was delivered by Dr. S. M. Kannan, Medical Director, RDT Hospital, Bathalapalli on safe use of medicines. Dr. Manohar Reddy, Physician delivered a presentation on treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis. Mr. Anil Tumkur was a resource person from ACPI, Manipal training on Pharmaceutical Care. Mr. E. Vigneshwaran given a talk on Pharmacovigilance and conducted a workout on ADR reporting using Indian Pharmacopeia Commission ADR reporting forms. The program was observed as very useful and need to be repeated every 3 months for the pharmacists of Anantapur. NPW rally and awareness skit was organized at Anantapur Town. The flag off of the rally was done by Sri. Katta Anand, President of ADCDA & M.D. of Walksman Selman Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. The rally made an improved awareness about pharmacists and their services to the society. There were also educational skits played on Alcohol, tobacco & drug addiction. RIPER students voluntarily participated in the blood donation camp conducted in the college with the efforts of Mr. Badrappa, NSS coordinator, RIPER. There was active participation for the literary competitions. Quiz and elocution competitions were for the pharmacy institutions in the area. More than 35 teams participated in quiz competition. The chief guest of the valedictory function was Prof. S. V. Sathyanarayana, Director, School of Continuing & Distance Education and Industrial Relation & Placement Cell, JNTUA, Anantapur and the guest of honor was Dr. S. M. Kannan, Medical Director, RDT Hospital, Bathalapalli. All the departmental heads of RIPER Dr. Sowmya, Dr. Ramalingam, Dr. Jyothi, Mr. Nagarjuna and Mr. Dixon organize the golden jubilee NPW celebrations 2011 under the leadership of Dr. Y. Padmanabha Reddy, Principal and Dr. J. Ravindra Reddy, Correspondent of RIPER. Principal of RIPER said the celebration was highly focusing on the theme of NPW 2011 - Pharmacists a healthcare professional.
Golden Jubilee National Pharmacy Week (NPW) Celebrations 2011 at Raghavendra Institute of Pharmaceutical Education & Research (RIPER)
