Summary/Scope We are looking for a crystallographer to join our structural biology team. Strong laboratory skills coupled to excellent skills in structure determination are desired, along with a strong motivation to help advance the discovery of impactful new therapeutics. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Determination of crystal structures of proteins in complexes relevant to small molecule and biologic therapeutic discovery 2. Design and execution of approaches to produce proteins for structural biology 3. Interaction with project teams to help advance the discovery of novel therapeutics Functional/Scientific/Technical Skills: • Developing cross-functional scientific knowledge. • Draw appropriate conclusions and make recommendations on next steps. • Demonstrate ability to write peer reviewed quality work. • Able to write invention disclosure for patent application, technical reports, technical protocols. • Scientific expert in specific area. • General awareness of drug discovery and development process. All applicants must have authorization to work for Celgene in the U.S. *LI-KM1 Qualifications Ph.D. with at least 4 years of experience required Skills/Knowledge Required:  Macromolecular crystal structure determination using molecular replacement and other phasing methods  Purification and characterization of recombinant proteins from E.coli and Baculovirus expression systems, further experience with other expression systems would be considered advantageous  Substantial experience with a broad range of protein purification techniques including affinity purification using His- or GST- tags, ion exchange and size exclusion chromatography  Experience with AKTA FPLCs would be highly advantageous  Knowledge of common methods for protein characterization including SDS-PAGE, western blotting, and LC/MS  Experience characterizing protein samples by Thermafluor, Biacore, ITC, light scattering or similar methods would be advantageous  Experience in structural or biophysical studies protein-protein, protein-nucleotide and protein-inhibitor complexes is desirable  Experience in X-ray data collection including the use of synchrotron beamlines *LI-KM1 Req ID: 14001614 Primary Location: United States-California-San Diego Job: Research and Development Organization: Signal Schedule: Regular Shift: Standard Employee Status: Individual Contributor Job Type: Full-time Job Level: Day Job Travel: Yes, 5 % of the Time Job Posting: 2014-06-03 00:00:00.0
