Job ID Number: 2013003912 Location: USA - CO - Denver Job Description POSITION SUMMARY As a core member of the manufacturing Leadership Team, this person has responsibility for leading all required elements to transition our workplace to a true continuous improvement environment. This includes, but is not limited to, identifying improvement opportunities with our current systems, training key individuals and developing and managing our metrics of success. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Develops, coordinates and drives the Operational Excellence deployment plan in the plant Assists senior leaders and champions in selecting projects and candidates that align with plant goals and strategies Responsible for deploying OpEx initiatives in the plant. Examples of these programs include SPC, Lean, Quality Circles and Problem Solving techniques. Train employees Lean Manufacturing methodology to become more effective and efficient while fostering an atmosphere/culture of Continuous Improvement. Ensure appropriate education/development of Plant employees relative to OpEx initiatives. Ensures project tracking system and business results are maintained, and results are communicated/summarized monthly. Works with leadership in installing organizational supports for Operational Excellence (reviews, communications, rewards, software, etc.) Leads plant projects of significant size and scope Supports mechanisms for knowledge sharing and best-practice knowledge transfer among Covidien Operational Excellence practitioners Dotted line management of up to three OpEx Engineers MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: BS/BA degree or equivalent degree in Business Management, Engineering, or other related field of study. MBA, MS or other technical graduate degree preferred. Prefer: Certified at the Black Belt level in both Six Sigma and Lean Experience A minimum of 7 years of business operations and/or plant manufacturing or engineering experience, which includes a minimum of 3+ years of demonstrated process improvement program success and 2+ years of managerial experience. Skills Demonstrated understanding of a high volume Manufacturing Environment Experience in applying OpEx tools to business and transactional projects Lean toolkit experience (Kanban, SMED, value stream mapping, Kaizen, 5S, etc) Six Sigma experience (DMAIC, and maybe DMADV, DFSS) Ability to identify and champion process improvements Solid past performance as a project manager. Strong analytical/statistical problem solving tools. Ability to support multiple projects and balance priorities. Broad business knowledge and ability to link customer needs with business processes. Strong coaching, facilitation and organizational skills. Excellent oral/written communication and platform skills. An understanding of and proficiency in Change Management. Advanced skills in MS Office and statistical software packages (Minitab etc.). Working Conditions: Travel varies based on initiatives ongoing. Usual office environment with frequent* sitting, walking, standing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, balancing, stooping and occasional climbing. Frequent use of eye, hand and finger coordination enabling use of office machinery. Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as the telephone. Light physical effort required by handling objects up to 20 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently.
