Job ID Number: 2013007605 Location: USA - NE - Norfolk Job Description Position Summary The position supports Covidien objectives by identifying opportunities for continuous process improvement. This position is responsible for OPEX activities, leading project teams, implementing teams, implementing changes, monitoring effectiveness and measuring results. This requires an understanding of, and experience using, Six Sigma tools and Lean Principles such as SMED, Visual Factory (6-S), TPM, Kanban, process capability, and additional statistical applications including tracking and updating local and corporate reports. Apply advanced engineering, quality and scientific principles to the evaluation and solution of technical problems. Identify the most effective, cost efficient and best practices to execute processes; continually evaluate processes for effectiveness and appropriateness. This position coordinates and drives the Operational Excellence (OPEX) initiatives in support of the site’s OPEX efforts and reports to the OpEx manager. It will be responsible for major aspects of the lean and six sigma program; from developing and implementing plans to sustaining improvements, coordinating efforts between various departments, and reporting the program’s progress to all levels of the organization. Principal Accountabilities Use and understand Statistical based software (MiniTab) and Quality tools (i.e., Process Mapping) for warranting process changes or improvements. Work with Corporate Engineering, Plant Engineering and Plant Quality Departments as needed to support new equipment or product lines. Have the ability to lead small groups of associates on individual or collective projects. All other duties as assigned with or without accommodation. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assist in the development of the one-year and three- year implementation plans to satisfy management’s OPEX vision and the site’s business objectives. Develop training programs and systems for implementing and sustaining the 5S, kanban, quick changeover, mistake proofing, and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) throughout the focus factory. Implement these processes as the basis for the OPEX efforts. Provide orientation training related to the operational excellence job functions and tools. Facilitate and lead Kaizen events Participate in or lead plant CAPA teams Participate in weekly GEMBA walks Support focus factory 5S teams Provide weekly/monthly lean manufacturing updates including key metrics to the organization, and maintain lean manufacturing visuals throughout the focus factory. Establish quarterly milestones and provide monthly reports to Manager covering progress against these milestones. Make thorough studies of existing conditions related to the problem presented and analyze needed changes to achieve increased production speed and/or eliminate product defects and waste. Identify and implement Statistical Process Control in applicable areas. Provide tracking/status updates for all OPEX Projects (Lean, Six Sigma, Reliability Improvement and Cost Savings Projects). Update and prioritize plant project hopper on a regular, ongoing basis. Ensure complete financial documentation for continuous improvement projects. Review monthly financial results with the accounting department for accuracy. Develop and deliver training for Lean and Six Sigma education in the focus factory. Implement Lean and Six Sigma systems and improvements. Coordinate and drive the focus factory’s efforts in the plant’s Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) efforts. Serve as the mentor for operational excellence personnel development in the focus factory. Drive certification for employees in six sigma and lean programs. Identify and execute cost savings projects. Requirements Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred from an accredited college or university and/or 3 years of OpEx experience. Experience: At leastfive (5) years in plant manufacturing or engineering experience with demonstrated process improvement success.
