Multiple Station Tablet Rotary Press

Tablet Rotary Press is the mechanical device with multiple punches that rotates to compresses the powder into tablets of uniform size with different shape and uniform weight to yield more number of tablets than signle punch machine.

. "Rotary Press" has a turret, on which lots of tooling (Punches and Dies) are installed. The press handles 3 processes in production, "Powder Filling" "Compression" "Tablet discharge" continuously while the turret is in motion.

Multiple station/rotary presses:

  • In this multiple station/rotary presses the head of the machine holds the upper punches, dies and lower punches. Lower punches are in the rotary motion.
  • As the head rotates the punches are moved up and down by fixed cam tracks, which controls the filling, compression and ejection processes.
  • The portions of the head that holds upper and lower punches are called as upper and lower turrets. The portion holding the dies is called as die table.

What are the components of the rotary punch tableting machine?

Tablet rotary punch machine are designed with the following basic components:

Hopper: It is used to hold the materials (drug or the drug with excipients/ granules) to be compressed and supply the material to the die and removes the tablet after its compression

Dies: Dies defines the shape and the size of the tablet by allowing the lower and upper punch to come close together to compress the material.

Lower and upper punches: These are used for compressing of the materials (drug or the drug with excipients/ granules) within the dies.

Cam track: This is the component used for guiding the movement of the punches.

Capacity regulator: To adjust the position of the lower punch to accommodate the required quantity of materials by the die.

Ejection regulator: To adjust the position of the lower punch, so that its highest position is at par with the surface of the die.

Driving wheel: It helps in the movement of the lower punch, the upper punch and hopper shoe and also check their movement.

What are the rotary tableting machine toolings?

The shape, size and the identification markings of the tablets are determined by the compression machine tooling.

The ZP100 rotary tablet press is a serial machine widely used by pharmaceutical and food industries to produce all kinds of round and irregularly-shaped tablets.

his series meets GMP standards. The pressing chamber is entirely separate from the drive system. The pressing chamber is paint-free, and all parts contacting powders and tablets are made of stainless steel or the surfaces are specially treated. The chamber is sealed with glass to prevent contamination.

The gear system, the guides and the major wearing parts are fully lubricated by a continual lubrication system. This machine can be equipped with special feeding devices to ensure proper feeding of a variety of specialty powders.

With this press, it's very easy to observe operation and to adjust the pressure, thickness, feeding, and speed via hand controls. All operational indicators are on the same side.

This fully-automatic machine is of the double-press type. The outside part of the machine is fully enclosed, the material of the cover and the inside table face being stainless steel. The turret face is specially designed to prevent contamination in order to meet GMP requirements.

Transparent observation windows permit clear viewing of press operation. The windows can be opened for ease of cleaning and maintenance. Drive speed and other adjustments are easily controlled, many of them adjustable during operation. All drive systems are enclosed in order to maintain high standards of cleanliness. The hydraulic system assures smooth, stable operation.

An overload protection unit prevents damage of the punches and other parts. When overload occurs, the machine stops automatically.

This machine is of the double-press type. It consists of two sets of feed assemblies and a press-roller unit. The turret carries 33 sets of punches and dies, so 66 tablets will be pressed for each revolution of the turret. During operation, the speed of the turret rotation, the depth of the filling materials and the thickness of the tablets can be adjusted.

How the tableting machines works?

A tablet is formed by the combined pressing action of two punches and a die.

Working process of rotary machine

Multiple station/rotary presses:

  • Fix the upper punches and the lower punches and the dies in the rotary machine.
  • The feed frame is attached to the machine along with the feed hopper and the weight is adjusted for the weight and hardness.
  • Fill the hopper with the powder or granular material.
  • When the machine starts, the hopper delivers the materials to the feed frame placed over the central part containing the dies.
  • The object of the feed frame is to confine the granules in position immediately over the die track.
  • As the head revolves, the dies come under the feed frame in the succession and are filled.
  • The material get compressed when the upper and the lower punch come closer.
  • The cycle of events in one revolution of the rotary head is as shown in the process flow and the cycle is repeated.
