Can I Treat Acne at Home?

Acne is the biggest and unresolved mystery for years, isn't it so? Almost every age group starting from teenagers to adults have this pesky pimple problem. Despite of various researches and experiments in this field, not even a single product has been formulated that can clear off acne up to one hundred percent or prevent it from returning.

If you are tired of trying on all kinds of branded products to resolve acne and yet unsatisfied with the results, then divert your attention towards home remedies.

Home Remedies for Acne

There are various ways by which you can treat acne in the comfort of your home, all by yourself, without the fear of facing any side effect. But you must watch for any allergic or undesirable reaction, which is least likely to occur.

Let us see how we can resolve acne all by ourselves at home using lemon , honey , potatoes, oatmeal , tea tree oil, and/or yogut .

Improve your diet

You might have known this phrase- "you are what you eat". This also applies to acne. People who consume a lot of oily and sweet products tend to have a lot of pimples. Spicy foods also cause pimples.

For your skin to be acne-free, it is imperative that your blood is clear of toxins. For this, you need to consume foods that are rich in antioxidants that help fight free radical damage. Some of these foods include citrus fruits, vegetables, nuts etc.

You can also extract juice of citrus fruits and have them once a day. Ginger tea is also excellent at purifying the blood.

Apply lemon on your face

Cut a lemon in half, and rub its pulpy side gently onto the pimples. Take care to not do it harshly. You might feel mild stinging for a while. Wait for a few minutes before rinsing it off.

The citrus component of lemon works by killing the P. Acnes bacteria, which are responsible for causing acne.

Use Honey

Honey makes a good anti-septic. It is being used for years for various medicinal purposes due to its bacteria killing property. Apply some honey onto your face and leave it for a while. You may make a mask out of honey and oats for added benefits.

You can also include honey in your diet. An apple-honey mask also works well. All you need to do is to blend some apple pulp with two tablespoons of honey and apply it onto your face. Wait for fifteen to twenty minutes before washing it off.

Cinnamon with honey is also good for pimples. Heat some honey to thin out its consistency. Now add cinnamon into it and blend to make a paste. Apply this paste on your pimples, leave for 10 minutes and rinse with warm water.

Apply potatoes on your pimples

Besides being an important part of your platter, potatoes can also help you in getting rid of the zits. You can use potatoes in multiple ways. Look out for the method that suits you the best.

  • Simply cut a slice of potato and rub it onto your face before going to bed. Leave it overnight. The starch will dry out. Rinse it off from your face in the morning.
  • Juice the potato in a blender to apply it like an ointment on your zits.

The potato remedy has two main benefits. Firstly, it heals acne and lightens the scars. Secondly, it tightens the pores, preventing any dirt from entering them and cause infection.

Use Oatmeal

Oatmeal not only makes you a good breakfast, but also acts as an acne healer. Use a food processor to grind a handful of oatmeal. Then pour the ground oats into a pot of boiling water. Cook it until it becomes a paste. Allow it to cool. Now massage the oatmeal paste onto your face. Leave it for fifteen minutes before you wash it off.

Oatmeal contains polysaccharides that help moisturize your skin and prevent it from turning dry and dull. It also cleans the pores.

Use Tea tree oil

This is yet another great home remedy for pimples. The soothing effect of the oil makes its use pleasant. Moreover, tea tree oil also acts as a disinfectant.

Use a cotton bud to apply the oil on your pimples. For some added benefits, you can apply a mixture of honey and tea tree oil.

Use Yogurt

Apply some yogurt all over your face. Let it dry all night when you sleep. Next morning, wash it off. Repeat this process for a few days and notice miraculous results.

You shall feel your skin soft and glowing, with some improvement in acne and scars. This happens due to the nutritional ingredients present in yogurt, which make it a great home remedy for pimples.

Yogurt contains zinc. Zinc does many wonders on your skin. Firstly, it acts as an anti-inflammatory agent that resolves inflammation caused due to acne. Moreover, it helps tighten the tissues and cause the growth of new tissue cells. Zinc also aids the skin glands to regulate their oil production. All of these benefits help greatly in getting rid of acne.

Yogurt also contains lactic acid, which works as an exfoliator and a moisturizer. It helps smoothen your skin.

The vitamin content of yogurt such as vitamin B2, B12 and B5 are essential for the skin cell generation and in the prevention of free radical damage.

You can also include yogurt and other dairy products in your diet.

Use Tomato pulp

Tomato pulp helps in getting rid of pimples in many ways. It also imparts a cooling effect to the face skin. Apply some tomato pulp all over your face and allow it to dry. Once it dries, rinse it off.

The natural ingredients in tomato pulp nourish the skin very well. They also help with the rejuvenation process.

The vitamin A in tomato is necessary for cell growth, whereas its vitamin C component prevents free radical damage. To control excess oil, add some tomato juice to cucumber juice and rub this mixture on your face with a cotton ball. Mix some tomato pulp with honey and use it as a mask.

All these home remedies are effective in treating your pimples. Choose the method that suits your skin and enjoy the benefits.
