Cinnamon: This herb which forms the base of your favorite gravy is gifted with blood sugar lowering capabilities as well. Cinnamon is found to improve insulin production in body, which controls glucose levels in blood. But do consult your doctor before going for the cinnamon remedy.

This herbal treatment can be followed in two ways: Have a pinch of cinnamon powder daily with some warm water; or you can mix a teaspoon of cinnamon powder in a cup of warm water and take this drink every day.

Cinnamon has been found to benefit those affected with Type 2 diabetes.

Bitter gourd: Some of you may not like the taste of bitter gourd, but the fact is that bitter gourd juice is an excellent remedy to protect from heart ailments, and to control sugar levels in blood. The remedy works in two ways. It prevents insulin resistance as well as it improves production of insulin hormone in body.

You may have a cup of bitter gourd juice every morning on an empty stomach, or you may cook it as part of your meal. But do get your doctor's approval before following this remedy.

Fenugreek: Fenugreek also serves as an effective home remedy for controlling blood sugar. Eat some fenugreek seeds with milk every day, or soak some of the seeds in water overnight, and drink this water the next morning (the seeds as well as the water).

This herbal remedy works by slowing down the digestion of carbohydrates after meals. It is also known to decrease many metabolic symptoms that may be associated with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Moreover, it improves the production of insulin in the body.
