oral meg sulphate is commenly used as saline laxitive or osmotic purgative this is the main preparation of intravenous megnesium

It is mainly used as a saline purgative(cathartic) and also used in the form of enema may also be applied to carbuncles and boils and in treatment of cholecystitis and also given parenterally to lower intra cranial pressure and to control convulsions in eclampsia and uremia.Ref:p.Gundh rao inorganic chemistry.
