Fetal/Foetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) is a pattern of mental and physical defects that can develop in a fetus when a woman drinks alcohol during pregnancy. The timing and frequency of alcohol consumption during pregnancy are major factors in the risk of a child developing fetal alcohol syndrome. SIGNS & SYMPTOMS: low birth weight small head circumference failure to thrive developmental delay organ dysfunction facial abnormalities, including smaller eye openings, flattened cheekbones poor coordination/fine motor skills learning difficulties, including poor memory, inability to understand concepts such as time and money, poor language comprehension, poor problem-solving skills
