Phase rule determines the number of degrees of freedom of chemical system.

F= C-P+2

where F = degrees of freedom

C= no. of chemical components in the system

P= No. of phases.

Phase rule is important is determining the STABILITY FIELDS, TRIPLE POINTS AND EQUILIBRIUM BOUNDARY LINES in a two dimensional system. It is the major concept in Thermodynamics of solutions.
