Thiamine. Beri beri is the condition that results from thiamine deficiency which is popular in the population consuming polished rice. The symptoms include loss of appetite,weakness, mental depression, constipation, nausea, Peripheral neuropathy and irritability. It is also reported with complaints of pins and needles sensation. Answer: 
Thiamine is helpful for the conversion of pyruvate to acetyl co A. Deficiency impaires this mechanism and so pyruvate concentration increases in the blood level. Deficiency of thiamine causes beri-beri and peripheral neuritis. Acute pernicious beri-beri is also common. In this case heart failure takes place.
